J. K. Rowling Wins Damages, Apology From Daily Mail Over September 2013 Article
Author J. K. Rowling has won an apology and damages from the Daily Mail over its assertion that she “she had falsely accused churchgoers of stigmatising her because she was a single mother.” The paper printed the statements in a September 2013 article. The writer sued over the story in January of this year, alleging that it defamed her and distressed her. The paper subsequently deleted the story and acknowledges that it misrepesented her in its story, which was based on an account she wrote about how her church treated her while she was a single mother twenty years ago. Ms. Rowling plans to donate the settlement money to charity. More here from the BBC. The Daily Mail‘s apology appears here.
