FCC Launches Investigation Into Payment to Armstrong Williams

Michael Powell, the FCC Chairman, has launched an investigation into whether commentator Armstrong Williams violated the agency’s regulations by accepting payments for speaking favorably about the No Child Left Behind Act (see his January 14, 2005 statement ). Senators Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) have also asked the Government Accountability Office to look into the matter.
