Gary Condit Settles With Dominick Dunne Over Defamation Allegations

Former Congressperson Gary Condit has settled his $11 million defamation suit against celebrity journalist Dominick Dunne. At issue were comments that Dunne made on the “Laura Ingraham Show” and in some television interviews about Condit’s conduct, and about whether he knew more about the disappearance of former intern Chandra Levy in 2001. Condit pronounced himself satisfied with the settlement, which includes the payment of an undisclosed sum of money and Dunne’s apology and renunciation of the comments. Earlier, Carolyn Condit, Gary’s wife, had settled a lawsuit with the National Enquirer, over a story that suggested she had something to do with the young woman’s disappearance. She also threatened to sue NBC’s Law & Order over an episode called “Missing” which first aired on February 6, 2004.
