Chinese Director Says He Will Submit Film to Censorship In Order to Qualify for Homeland Release
Director Lou Ye, who premiered his film “Summer Palace” at the Cannes Film Festival before obtaining permission to release it in China, now cannot release it at home, according to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. Lou says he will do whatever is necessary to get a homeland premiere, although he doesn’t know what may be required. Lack of agency approval may now jeopardize the film’s ability to win a prize at the festival, say observers.
