New French legislation requiring compatibility between Apple’s iPod and downloadable iTunes and other players and downloadable music has gone into effect. Meanwhile, in Britain, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, legislatures are considering whether to require Apple to make its hardware and music compatible with competitors’ devices and tunes.
