Weekly Word News Ceases Publication

On August 27, 2007 the venerable Weekly World News will cease publication. No more stories about aliens visiting small towns in the mid-west (or the White House). No more leaked serial killer autopsy photos. Saddest of all, no more Bat Boy stories. I’ll mourn this great publication and its devoted journalists. As former WWN editor Sal Ivone once said, “If someone calls me up and says their toaster is talking to them, I don’t refer them to professional help, I say, ‘Put the toaster on the phone’.” Now, that’s the mark of a great newspaperman.
