Jordanian Poet Charged With Blasphemy

Jordan has arrested a poet for blasphemy based on the accusations of a leading religious figure, the Grand Mufti Nuh Qdah, who says that Islam Samham’s recent poems are “a type of atheism and blasphemy,” because they link material from the Koran and “sexual themes.” If Mr. Samhan is found guilty, he could receive a three year sentence.
