Daily Mail Editor Criticizes Judge For Recent Privacy Decisions
The Guardian reports that Daily Mail editor in chief Paul Dacre has criticized both the BBC and Mr. Justice Eady, a prominent trial court judge, in his speech before the Society of Editors conference. Mr. Dacre found fault with the BBC’s proposed network of local websites and with Mr. Justice Eady’s recent privacy rulings, which amount to “arrogant and amoral judgments.” Said Mr. Dacre, “The British press is having a privacy law imposed on it, which apart from allowing the corrupt and the crooked to sleep easily in their beds is, I would argue, undermining the ability of mass-circulation newspapers to sell newspapers in an ever more difficult market.”
