Irish Judge Rules That Paper May Not Publish Photos of Newly Released Prisoner

An Irish judge has ruled that Sunday Life, a Belfast newspaper, may not publish photographs of a man who had served 21 years of a life sentence for murder and is being released. The judge found that Kenneth Callaghan’s right to privacy outweighed the newspaper’s freedom to publish the pictures, since Mr. Callaghan was not likely to reoffend and he was being properly “supervised” after his release.
