Prop 8 Lawsuit Arguments Open Today; Camera Issue Still Unsettled
The argument over whether cameras can broadcast the arguments in the suit challenging California’s Proposition 8,which begins today, landed in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals last week. The judge hearing the case, U. S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, said the public interest in the issues being aired justified opening the courtroom to both traditional cameras and the Internet. Friday, the Ninth Circuit refused to overturn the plan. But a last minute request has been filed before Justice Anthony Kennedy to block such access.
