A Little Later, Not So Sorry

Aaron Swartz, who helped create Reddit and was facing federal charges that he hacked into MIT’s computers as well as JSTOR’s databanks and downloaded millions of documents, committed suicide last week. Now JSTOR is saying it is “deeply saddened” to hear the news, which seems to be an altered, truncated version of what the Scientist has posted here–that JSTOR “regrets” having become “involved” in the case. Here’s what seems to be an earlier version, what The Scientist is referring to, posted at The Moderate Voice, and here. Meanwhile, Anonymous has hacked MIT’s computers in solidarity with the late Mr. Swartz.

More about Mr. Swartz’s life and the activities to which he subscribed here, from the New York Times.
