Several British MPs were less than complimentary concerning the behavior and qualifications of some BBC executives who appeared before them in a hearing on September 9, saying the execs were more interesting in “squabbling” and in “covering their backs” than in explaining how the BBC okayed large payouts to former executives and whether the BBC Trust could continue to oversee the network effectively. Said Tory MP Richard Bacon, “Surely the case has been overwhelmingly proven … it’s broken, it is not working properly, it needs fixing now.” The hearing is part of a continuing investigation into BBC practices over the past few years.
