British Police Officer Sentenced For Selling Info To Tabloid

The Guardian reports that Thomas Ridgeway, a Scotland Yard police officer, has been sentenced to one year in prison for for selling stories to the UK tabloid the Sun. The stories involved information about an actor who attempted suicide and police involved in sexual activity. Mr. Ridgeway’s mother Sandra, who was involved in aiding and abetting, received an 18 week prison sentence and 26 weeks of probation.
