A federal district judge has dismissed the defamation lawsuit brought by Shiva Ayyadurai against Techdirt and some of its writers, which had called his claim to have invented email, at best, an exaggeration. The judge determined that the First Amendment protects the defendants’ speech, on the basis that the statements they made are not capable of be proven true or false, are subjective, or are statements “involving figurative language or hyperbole.”
