U. S. District Court Judge William Pauley has granted in part and denied in part the unsealing of warrant materials in the Michael Cohen case (Southern District of New York). The judge examined the common law right of access claim, and concluded that the public has a right of access to materials which have not resulted in criminal charges or do not relate to ongoing investigations.  He also examined the claim of right of access under the First Amendment.
