Steven Galloway, a former professor at the University of British Columbia, has won an important ruling regarding access to documents in his lawsuit against a woman who accused him of sexual assault. A retired British Columbia Supreme Court Justice investigated the allegations and found that Mr. Galloway had not committed sexual assault but did have a consentual but inappropriate relationship with the woman. The University then fired him. Eventually, UBC paid him nearly a quarter of a million dollars for violating his privacy rights and damaging his reputation.

In October, 2018, Mr. Galloway filed a defamation suit against his accuser and others who repeated the accusations.
